We needed a good start to chase down 168: Sehwag

By IANS,

New Delhi: After their 16-run loss to Deccan Chargers here Tuesday, Delhi Dareveils captain Virender Sehwag said they needed a good start to chase down 168 and hoped he and fellow opener David Warner will live up to the task in their coming Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.

Daredevils slumped to their second loss at home ground Ferozeshah Kotla which was their third defeat in four matches.

“If you look at other teams when they get a good start, they usually win the game. Hopefully Warner and I can give a good start as well,” Sehwag said.

Sehwag also backed under-fire allrounder Irfan Pathan, who was bought for $1.9 million by Daredevils but is yet to justify his price tag.

“Irfan is coming from an injury after one-and-half year and he will take time. He picked up an early wicket. In four overs he gave just 30 runs so he is getting better day by day,” he said.

The wicket at Kotla has once again been the talking point with its low bounce but Sehwag said the pitch here has always behaved like this.

“The wicket is like that for some years. It is difficult to chase 160-170 on this wicket. You have to apply yourself and also the team looks up to a good start,” he said.

Asked whether they asked for a green top, Sehwag said: “We asked them to prepare a couple of wickets and this is what we got.”
