Dikshit flags off women’s car rally for cancer cause

By IANS,

New Delhi : Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Tuesday flagged off the 3rd Cankids Annual Women’s Car rally which was organised to generate awareness about cancer in children.

The rally, which started from the chief minister’s residence, will drive through Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and parts of Himachal Pradesh. It is being organised by NGO Cankids.

Dikshit interacted with kids who survived cancer and who performed a street play at her residence.

“I appreciate the work done by Cankids in spreading the awareness about childhood cancer. The Delhi government is fully committed to the cause of spreading awareness about this disease,” said Dikshit.

She also talked about the Chacha Nehru Sehat Yojana which ensures free treatment and compulsory medical check-up for all school-going children up to the age of 14.

“Our mission is to ensure that no child dies of cancer because he or she could not get treatment for lack of money,” Cankids president Poonam Bagai said.

Ginni Sama, a cafe owner who came to support the cause, said: “I am here because I want everyone to know that childhood cancer is curable.”
