CBI summons two Punjab ministers in graft case

By IANS,

Chandigarh : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Saturday summoned two Punjab ministers in a graft case.

CBI counsel told a special court here that the agency has summoned Industries and Local Bodies Minister Manoranjan Kalia and Technical Education and Industrial Training minister Swarna Ram Monda.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Raj Khurana was also arrested by the CBI May 5 in the same case.

The complainant, Manpreet Singh of the Punjab Automobile Mechanic Association, alleged that a retired government official Devinder Singh Bittu had asked for a bribe of Rs.1.5 crore for settling a pending case. The former official said the work would be done by Khurana who is in talks with ministers Kalia and Ram.

The CBI arrested Khurana and Bittu Thursday morning.

“I have nothing to do with this case. CBI is trying to tarnish my image at the behest of Congress. I am sure that truth will soon come out and I am also planning to file a case against CBI,” Kalia told reporters Thursday.

Kalia is the senior most BJP leader in the Akali Dal-BJP alliance government.
