By TCN News,
Patna: In less than 15 hours the election results for five assemblies will start coming. Will a jinni come out of the obituary written for the Left Front in West Bengal? Will corruption kill DMK in Tamil Nadu or Jayalalithaa will remain cold for next five years? Which of the two opposite post-poll surveys for Assam will be true? The picture will be clear by mid-Friday 13th May. TwoCircles.net will be providing you the results as they come.
Besides, TCN will be the first and fast to tell you about the fate of Muslim candidates in all four states – West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu — and one Union Territory, Puducherry. Will Jalaluddin Ali of Asom Gana Parishad win Baghbar Assembly constituency that has 98% Muslim voters? Will Imranuddin Ahmed of Assam United Democratic Front capture Naharkatia seat which has just 15% Muslim voters? What will be pattern of Muslim voters – TCN will tell you.
The 2006 poll for these five assemblies saw 105 Muslim candidates entering the state legislative house. The five assemblies have a total of 824 seats, and there are a total of 105 Muslim MLAs there – that is 12.74%. However, if we deduct 175 seats reserved for SCs/STs from the total of 824, the percentage of Muslim representation is 16.17%.
Of five states, Assam, West Bengal and Kerala have around 30% Muslim population each, and thus these three state assemblies have more Muslim MLAs than many other states.
State ———-Total No. of Seats ———-Muslim MLAs
Assam———-26——————————-25
West Bengal–294——————————46
Kerala———-140——————————25
Tamil Nadu—234——————————-07
Puducherry—-30——————————–02
Will the Assembly Poll 2011 increase the number of Muslim MLAs or decrease it? Let’s wait and see.
