Forces in Bengal will stay for 10 more days: Quraishi

By IANS,

New Delhi : Security forces would remain in West Bengal for another 10 days in view of the “unprecedented” situation, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) S.Y. Quraishi said Friday as the Trinamool Congress was set to rout the Left Front government that has ruled for 34 years.

Asked about the fear of a surge of violence in West Bengal after the results, Quraishi told reporters: “The forces will continue to be in Bengal for 10 more days. This is unprecedented.”

“We hope tempers should cool down by that time.”

The CEC, however, downplayed questions on misbehaviour of some security personnel during the six-phased elections in West Bengal, terming them “stray incidents”.
