Agartala: Tripura’s Left Front government, the only state where the Communists are in power after their ouster in West Bengal and Kerala, Saturday said it will intensify corrective measures both in governance and the party organisation.
The main opposition Congress also Saturday announced it will step up its year-long organisational programme against the “misrule of the Left Front government in Tripura”.
According to opposition leader Ratan Lal Nath, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi and other central leaders would start visiting Tripura from this month-end and would take part in the series of mass movements.
Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Tripura unit secretary Bijon Dhar told reporters: “By using money, media and muscle power, the anti-Left forces might destabilize the government in Tripura. With some corrective measures we would go to the people with peace and developmental plans.”
“The anti-Left forces whom people have voted to power will be defeated by the same people as they (anti-Left forces) would not solve the problems of price rise, unemployment, backwardness and other crises of the people,” said Dhar, a CPI-M central committee member.
Jubilant Congress and Trinamool Congress leaders and workers since Friday organised rallies and public gatherings across the Left-ruled state to celebrate their victory in West Bengal, Kerala and Assam.
Opposition leader Nath told reporters: “All factions of Congress leaders must be united and the pradesh Congress in close associations with all its frontal bodies would continue unrelenting struggle against the Left Front government in the state.”
According to Nath, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has already approved a series of action plans to be executed by the state leaders in the coming months.
“We have to plan now what programme would be organised in December this year. No short cut or infrequent programmes from now onwards,” the cheerful opposition leader said.
The AICC has recently appointed senior Congress leader and former Goa chief minister Luizinho Feleiro to supervise the Congress party’s affairs in Tripura and other northeastern states.
The Tripura unit of Trinamool Congress has announced agitational programmes in the ensuing months.
“Some Congress leaders are also trying to join Trinamool Congress and the issue would be sorted out soon with the approval of party supremo Mamata Banerjee,” a Trinamool Congress leader told IANS on condition of anonymity.
