NIA files supplementary chargesheet against Aseemanand in Mecca Masjid blast case

Hyderabad: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday filed a supplementary charge sheet before the Hyderabad Special Court against RSS pracharak Nabakumar Sarkar @ Swami Aseemanand, one of the main conspirators of the bomb blasts in the Mecca Masjid, Hyderabad. The blasts on 18th May 2007 had killed 9 persons and wounded 58 others.

The supplementary charge sheet has been filed under sections 302,307,326 and 324 r/w 120 (B) IPC, Sections 13, 15 r/w 16,17,18,19 & 23 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (as Amended in 2004) and Sections 3,4, & 5 of Explosive Substances Act 1908 against him for his role in the blasts.

Firstly the investigation was conducted by the Hussaini Alam Police Station, Hyderabad City, Andhra Pradesh. Subsequently, the cases were entrusted with the CBI which filed a charge sheet against accused Devender Gupta and Lokesh Sharma, who were arrested and are in judicial custody. Swami Aseemnand was arrested from Haridwear on 19.11.2010, where he was hiding with a fictitious name ‘Swami Omkaranand”. Later, the Central Government had taken a decision to transfer the case for further investigation by the National Investigation Agency and the NIA started further investigation from April, 2011. Swami Aseemanand is now in Ambala jail, being an accused in Samjhauta Express Bomb Blast case of 2007. NIA is conducting further investigation.

In this case two prime accused Sandeep Dange and Ramji Kalsangara are absconding and NIA has declared a reward of Rs. 10 lakhs each for their arrest.
