The apex court bench of Justice G.S. Singhvi and Justice A.K. Ganguly directed the state government to refund the Rs.20 lakh paid by the cricketer for the plot.

Justice Ganguly directed the cricketer to return the land in two weeks, and asked the state government to refund the money in another two weeks.

Sourav Ganguly was allotted one acre of land in the posh Salt Lake area in 2000 to set up a school.

However, various local residents and an NGO had opposed the deal, saying the actual price of the land was many times more than what he had paid.
