Congress slams Ramdev, BJP, Anna

By IANS,

New Delhi: Hitting out at Baba Ramdev and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress said Wednesday that the agitation of the yoga guru against corruption had the backing of the Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

The party called upon the government to take action in view of his call for raising an “armed” force of young men and women.

Congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan also slammed social activist Anna Hazare for his call for a “second freedom struggle”.

Referring to Ramdev’s remarks about preparing a force of 11,000 men and women by training them in the Vedas and weapons, Natarajan wondered if it was a plan to start an armed rebellion against the government.

She said the BJP should answer if it was party to the plan of having “armed young men against the constution and the lawfully elected government”.

She said the government should take due action to maintain law and order and to prevent any communal conflagaration.

Natarajan added that the move to form any force of young men and women was “illegal and unconstitutional.”

Referring to Hazare’s call for “a second freedom movement” to end corruption, she said such remarks were unacceptable and condemnable.

“A seond freedom movement against whom? A constitutionally elected government”, she asked, adding that the subversion of the political system cannot be allowed.

Natarajan said the “Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha, the apex body of the RSS,” took the decision March 11 to start an anti-corruption movement with Ramdev as its patron and Hindutva ideologue Govindacharya as a member.

She said that the United Progressive Alliance government and the Congress were committed to rooting out corruption and bringing a strong Lokpal bill.
