Chennai: The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government has deviated from tradition by not consulting opposition parties before postponing the monsoon session of parliament, BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said Thursday.
The government has decided to convene the monsoon session from Aug 1, instead of mid-July.
“This time, we came to know about the monsoon session only from the media,” the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha told reporters here.
Sushma Swaraj said the central government was reluctant to face the opposition on important issues, including Lokpal bill and corruption.
On the issue of the reported bugging of union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee’s office, she demanded setting up of a commission to bring out the truth.
Referring to the attack on Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy, she said the central government was not taking any steps to prevent such incidents, though her party has been demanding that.
She added that the BJP will extend full support for passing the women’s reservation bill.
