Bengal minister, promoter almost come to blows

By IANS,

Kolkata: A West Bengal Minister got into an altercation and almost came to blows with a promoter after two labourers working in an under-construction multi-storied apartment sustained serious injuries in a fall Sunday.

Disaster Management and Fire Services Minister Javed Khan, who rushed to the spot in south east Kolkata’s Tiljala area on receiving the news of the accident, called the promoter Chunnu Mian a mafia don and alleged that he was constructing several illegal buildings.

“He is a mafia don. He makes illegal buildings. If anybody protests, his men bring goons from outside,” said Khan, who was inspecting a series of buildings made by the promoter.

Mian, who was nearby, loudly protested. “It is true that some of my boys make buildings illegally to make a living. But what about him? Lot of Trinamool people are involved in this. His son is also in this trade. But he does not take any step,” said the promoter.

As Khan countered, the two got into a verbal spat. Matters turned worse and Mian was seen charging at the minister.

However, some others intervened and the two left the spot.

Later, Khan lodged a police complaint against the promoter and also asked the Kolkata Municipal Corporation to initiate steps against the illegal buildings in the locality.

Meanwhile, the condition of both the labourers were stated to be serious.
