Mulayam targets Uttar Pradesh governor

Meerut : Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav Saturday gave a call for laying a siege at the Raj Bhawan as a mark of protest against Uttar Pradesh Governor T.V. Rajeshwar’s “bias” against him and his party.

“The governor’s bias against me and my party was blatantly visible all along my last stint as chief minister, when he would repeatedly send adverse reports about my government to the centre,” Yadav told the valedictory function of a three-day state executive of the party here.

“While the governor continued to condemn my government on the law and order front, he has chosen to turn a blind eye to the deteriorating state of affairs under the Mayawati regime today.

“What is even more glaring about the governor’s bias is that he declined to give a go-ahead to CBI when it came to Mayawati’s prosecution under the Prevention of Corruption Act, when acquisition of assets far beyond her known sources of income was an open secret,” he added.

Emphasising upon the need to “expose” the governor, Yadav said, “We will shortly ‘gherao’ the Raj Bhawan.”

He also accused Mayawati of deliberately delaying the Ballia Lok Sabha bye-election, necessitated by the death of former prime minister Chandra Shekhar.

“Knowing that the late Chandra Shekhar’s son Neeraj was going to contest on the Samajwadi Party’s ticket and that he was invincible, Mayawati was delaying the bye-election on one lame excuse or the other,” Yadav alleged.
