Telangana activists pay last respects to Yadi Reddy

By IANS,

Hyderabad : Hundreds of Telangana activists Friday bid a tearful adieu to M. Yadi Reddy, who committed suicide in New Delhi two days ago for a separate state.

Leaders and activists of various political and non-political groups paid their last respects to the young man in his native Peddamangalarm village in Ranga Reddy district.

Yadi Reddy’s last rites were performed amid tight security and Telangana songs rendered by balladeer Gaddar, Vimalakka and other revolutionary artists. Slogans of “Jai Telangana” rent the air as the Telangana supporters, including a large number of women, vowed not to rest till they achieved a separate state.

Frustrated over the delay in formation of a Telangana state, Yadi Reddy committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree near India Gate in New Delhi on Wednesday.

His body was brought to Hyderabad airport and from there to his native village by the police Thursday night amid tight security and high drama.

Leaders of Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC), the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), the Congress, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Telangana Praja Front and other groups paid their last respects to Yadi Reddy.

The TRS leaders who attended yadi Reddy’s last rites included legislator Harish Rao, who slapped an official at the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in New Delhi Thursday after the authorities did not allow the body to be brought to the state guest house.

A shutdown is being observed in Telangana Friday on a call given by the JAC to protest the alleged insult to the “martyr”.

Various parties and leaders in Andhra and Rayalaseema regions condemned Harish Rao for beating up a Dalit official hailing from Andhra region in New Delhi’s Andhra Bhavan. In Visakhapatnam, protestors took out rallies and burnt the effigy of the TRS leader.

TDP leader Kodela Siva Prasad Rao demanded action against Harish Rao.
