New Delhi : Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee Wednesday urged Anna Hazare’s team pressing for a strong Lokpal bill to allow parliamentary process to be completed and said all-party meeting convened by the government had recommended consideration of Jan Lokpal bill in the final draft of the bill to be brought by the government.
Mukherjee, who held third round of talks with Team Hazare, said the government apprised them of the outcome of the all-party meeting.
“We apprised them of the outcome of all party meeting and also responded to their demands…
We requested them to allow parliamentary process to be completed,” he said.
He said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had written a letter to Hazare that the Jan Lokpal bill will be referred to the standing committee and process of discussions will be expedited as per decision of the standing committee.
“We hope that parliamentary processes will be allowed to complete the exercise,” he said.
He said the all-party meeting held Wednesday unanimously urged Hazare to end his fast and also assured that due consideration will be given to Jan Lokpal Bill so that the final draft is supported by a broad national consensus.
He said the government was committed to implement the recommendations of all-party meeting.
Union Minister Salman Khurshid and Congress MP Sandeep Dikshit were also present at the meeting.
