Tripoli hospitals suffering shortage of medical supplies

By IANS/RIA Novosti,

Tripoli : Hospitals in the Libyan capital Tripoli are experiencing a critical lack of medical supplies, the al-Ahram website said Thursday.

The hospitals are in dire need of antibiotics, bandages and anaesthetics. There is also a sharp deficit of fuel, food and drinking water, the website said.

“Tripoli doctors are performing miracles, going to work under gunfire, without even the chance to sleep,” the Red Crescent organisation said.

Rebels seized control of much of Tripoli this week, but Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s whereabouts remain unknown.

The National Transitional Council has offered an amnesty, as well as a $1.3-million reward for anyone who captures or kills Gaddafi.
