Top Lashkar militant gunned down in Kashmir

Srinagar : Abdullah Uni, the most wanted Lashkar-e-Taiba militant in Kashmir Valley, was gunned down in a shootout with security forces in Sopore town Tuesday, police said. Uni was responsible for more than 20 killings, including that of senior cleric Maulana Shaukat Ahmad Shah.

Uni was active in Sopore area of the valley for more than four years and carried a reward of Rs.20 lakh on his head, police said.

He is believed to be responsible for the killing of Jamiat-e-Ahl-e-Hadees chief Maulana Shaukat Ahmad Shah earlier this year.

Uni was killed during a gunfight after security forces zeroed in on a house in Sopore.
