Suspected Maoist linkman held in Bengal

By IANS,

Kolkata : The joint security forces Monday arrested a suspected Maoist linkman from West Bengal’s West Midnapore district.

Dilip Mahato, a leader of the pro-Maoist tribal body People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA), was taken into custody from Cherabani in Jhargram sub-division, a police officer said.

“It appears he has links with the Maoists. We are probing that angle,” the officer said.

Meanwhile, life was affected following the 24-hour shutdown called by Jharkhand Janamukti Morcha and some other outfits Monday in protest against the killing of its leader Babu Bose Sunday night.

Educational institutions, shops and markets were closed while vehicles did not venture out onto the streets. Attendance was thin in central and state government offices and banks.

However, there were no reports of any untoward incidents.
