Chandigarh : An eco-friendly building in an integrated forest complex will be the new home of Punjab’s forest department.

Forests Minister Tikshan Sud said Tuesday that the complex, to be built at Mohali, 10 km from here, at a cost of Rs.120 million will address environmental concerns and incorporate green building design principles.

All offices of the department, now scattered in Chandigarh and Mohali, would be headquartered in the new building.

Sud said this would help the department save over Rs.6.5 million.

The building will be constructed in two phases – 70,000 square feet in the first phase and 60,000 square feet in the second – and would be ready by March 2009.

Besides government offices, it will also house a library and documentation centre, a forest and wildlife gallery, conference and training facilities, a yoga and activity centre, a ladies room, a crèche and a guest house.
