How come you never raised voice against BJP: Digvijay to Hazare

By IANS,

New Delhi : Seeking to counter Anna Hazare’s campaign against the party ahead of the Hisar by-poll, Congress leader Digvijay Singh Tuesday asked the activist why he had never raised his voice against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and had even praised Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

“You never raised a voice against BJP. As compared to your excitement against the Congress, you praise Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi where there had been no Lokayukta for nine years,” he said in his open letter to Hazare.

Singh charged the BJP of double standards on the issue of Indian black money stashed away in foreign banks. He said that BJP leaders never did anything to bring back black money during the National Democratic Alliance rule 1998-2004.

Singh further said while the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government has put former ministers, MPs and corporates involved in corruption, behind bars, the BJP did nothing against its corrupt leaders including former president Bangaru Laxman, who was caught on TV camera taking bribe.

On Hazare’s support to yoga guru Baba Ramdev, Singh said: “You supported Swami Ramdev’s movement against black money but today he is facing probe by the Enforcement Directorate for the same.”

“This affects your image.”

Singh said the UPA government made the law to curb money laundering more stringent, which led to former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda’s arrest.

Mentioning that the “BJP had promised to make Anna the next president of India”, Singh cautioned the activist to “see through the allurement”.

“I respect you. You are welcome to join politics but choose your supporters carefully,” added Singh.

Hazare has called voters to defeat the Congress in Hisar, where the party candidate Jai Prakash is locked in a close fight with Indian National Lok Dal’s Ajai Singh Chautala and Bhajan Lal’s son Kuldeep Bishnoi as Haryana Janhit Congress nominee for the Oct 13 Lok Sabha by-poll.
