Don’t leak Goa mining report to media: Congress

By IANS,

Panaji : Irked by the bad press received over the multi-crore illegal mining scam in Goa, the Congress Sunday cautioned the members of the Justice M.B. Shah commission against leaking contents of its probe to the media.

Speaking to reporters in Panaji, Congress secretary in-charge of Goa Jagmeet Singh Brar said constant leaks could rob the “sanctity” of Justice Shah’s probe, which is expected to be completed by November.

“I take strong objection to the leaks to the media… These political interviews should not be given to the press,” Brar said, adding that he had the “greatest and utmost regard and respect for the commission”.

He said if the commission named the top official in the state guilty of illegal mining, his head and the heads of those involved in illegal mining would roll. But that would be when the enquiry is complete and the report is submitted.

“Until then, interviews where members of the commission say that the mining scam in Goa is the biggest in the country must stop,” Brar said.

The opposition has pegged the scam at Rs.25,000 crore.
