Karachi : Teachers and students at the University of Karachi have protested against the honorary PhD degree awarded to Interior Minister Rehman Malik.
On Wednesday, they boycotted classes for two hours, Online news agency reported. It however did not mention why they were opposing it.
Sakaeel Farooq, general secretary of the university’s teachers’ association, said the protest will continue till the award is withdrawn. Students too vowed their support.
The degree was awarded by the syndicate of Karachi university recently in recognition of Malik’s “matchless services to the country in the war on terror and particularly in restoring peace to the citizens of Karachi”.
Malik did his Masters in Statistics in 1973 from the university.
