Kochi: Sainuddin alias Sattar Bhai, an accused in the Kashmir ‘terrorist recruitment’ case, was produced before the Ernakulam NIA Special Court on Monday amidst tight security and was remanded till 14 days. He is also an accused in the Ahmedabad bomb blast case and was brought to the court from Ahmedabad Central Jail.
Earlier he was asked to be produced before the court on 25th October, along with the 12 accused who were under imprisonment in different cases in the Bangalore and Ahmedabad Jails; but only the accused from Bangalore jail were produced on the scheduled date.
The court had to reissue a production warrant for him and as the court went on off due to the Bakrid, the Gujarat Police took him to the NIA special court Judge S Vijaya Kumar’s residence, from where he was remanded for 14 days and was taken back to Ahmedabad.
According to the NIA chargesheet, Sainuddin played a key role in recruiting youth in the state for arms training from the LeT in Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan. The chargesheet also alleged that he had organized youth under classes and activities of Tariqat (a school of Sufism) at Neerchal near Kannur, Kanhangad, Malappuram, a Makham shrine at Mudikkal, Kaniyapuram and the Dargah of Jamiya Nooriya in Hyderabad.
In 2008, four Keralite Muslim youths namely – Fayas, Abdul Rahim, Mohammed Yasin and Fayis were said to have killed in an encounter with the security forces and were as such believed to have been recruited under the influence of such Tariqat classes organised by Sainuddin.
The NIA filed a charge-sheet against 24 accused in the recruitment case, 11 of them convicted in the Bangalore blast case, who had earlier been brought to Kochi from the Bangalore Central Jail. They are again to be presented before the court on Wednesday.
