India successfully tests n-capable Agni-I missile

Bhubaneswar : India Thursday successfully test-fired its indigenously developed nuclear-capable surface-to-surface Agni-I missile from a military base in Odisha, a defence official said.

The missile, which can strike a target 700 km away, was tested by armed forces at 9.30 a.m. from a facility on Wheeler Island near Dhamra in Bhadrak district, 170 km from here.

It was launched from road mobile launcher system and reached the target point in the Bay of Bengal, S.P. Dash, director of the local test range, told IANS.

The missile was tracked by radar, telemetry stations located along the coastline. Two naval ships located near the target point tracked the missile in the terminal phase of the flight, he said.
