Mumbai: Some members of Mumbra unit of Students Islamic Organization of India (SIO) were beaten up by protagonists of a fashion show of college boys and girls as the show scheduled to be held at D.R.T.A.E. Kalsekar College was cancelled by the principal after protest from SIO.
At the inter-college show that was to be organized by NKT college of Thane, college girls and boys were to walk on the ramp showing different vulgar dresses.
Some of the students stood against this and wrote a letter to the principal and chairperson of D.R.T.A.E. Kalsekar College. The principal agreed and cancelled the show. It is believed that the cancellation caused uneasiness amongst the students who were to participate in the show, leading to misbehavior. Gradually condition even got violent. Some SIO associates were beaten by a group of students in the classroom at the college.
When the news spread, SIO Mumbra members and associates gathered at the spot and conducted a peaceful protest against the violence. SIO members went to meet the principal. Initially she refused to meet. But after some time she agreed to talk.
In this meeting with principal SIO ZAC Member Abdus Salam expressed his disappointment over the incident at the D.R.T.A.E campus. The principal has promised to call the parents of all the students who were involved in this incident.
“SIO Mumbra wants the students who have beaten their colleagues to apologize. If this thing doesn’t happen or any action is taken against their associates then they will take up this issue to the higher management of the college,” said Ziyaul Islam, a functionary of SIO Mumbra unit.
