Kolkata : An alert gangman prevented a possible accident when he detected a rail line fracture near Cheragram Station in West Bengal, shortly before the Asansol-Howrah Agniveena Express was due to pass Thursday, railway sources said.
The gangman, Gafar detected the fracture on reversible line of the Howrah Burdwan chord line of Eastern Railway’s Howrah division Thursday morning and immediately alerted the higher authorities.
Railway sources said the rail fracture happened due to variation of temperature.
The Agniveena Express was detained outside Cheragram station.
Train services were, however, maintained through other two lines.
Normal train services resumed after about half an hour when the rail fracture was repaired.
Gafar would be given a Rs.4,000 cash award in recognition of his sincere work, the sources said.
