Beijing : Seven people, including a policeman and three government officials, have been held responsible for a late night fire that killed 18 people in Beijing in April, officials said.
At least 24 other people were injured in the blaze which broke out in a four-storey garment workshop that doubled up as a workers’ dormitory in the capital’s Daxing district April 25, Xinhua reported.
Officials say it was one of the deadliest fires in Beijing in nine years.
A probe led by work safety authorities found the fire was caused by the short circuit of the battery of an electric tricycle parked at the ground-floor of the workshop.
The probe found the local fire bureau, police bureau, and commerce bureau responsible for loose supervision.
The house was illegally built and rented, the workshop operated without a license, and the safety checks were lax, the probe said.
