New Delhi : The Indian army already hit by different scandals is now facing another racket of “official passports.”
Media reports quoting sources said the scandal was unearthed when immigration officials stopped four Indian immigrants trying to go to Germany using official passports.
After initial probe into the matter, the immigrants informed the police that they had got these official passports through an agent after paying a hefty amount to a person working in Army headquarters.
The investigation revealed that passports were issued to members of an army band, which had participated in an international concert of forces in Germany.
Intelligence agencies are also probing the racket after one of the band members during interrogation indicated to the involvement of “highly placed officers.”
Media reports quoting a Defence Ministry spokesman said an inquiry had been ordered into the scandal.
