Congress, TDP want to see Jagan behind bars

Hyderabad : The ruling Congress party in Andhra Pradesh has hailed the arrest of Vijay Sai Reddy, Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy’s aide, and believes that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) would arrest Jagan and others soon.

“Vijay Sai Reddy’s arrest is a part of the whole thing. The CBI has evidence that Jagan and others looted public assets. I am sure the CBI will arrest the remaining 74 accused,” said Andhra Pradesh Minister for Health D.L. Ravindra Reddy.

Minister for Textiles P. Shankar Rao, on whose petition the state high court had ordered a CBI probe against Jaganmohan Reddy in August last year, said the law would take its own course.

“Action will also be taken as per law against those behind Vijay Sai Reddy. Those who benefited will also be brought to book,” he said.

The opposition TDP wanted to know why Jagan was not arrested. TDP leader Revanth Reddy asked the CBI to clarify why Jagan was not arrested though he is the first accused in the case.

Vijay Sai Reddy, the vice-president of Jagati Publications Private Limited (JPPL), was arrested by the CBI Monday in the case relating to alleged illegal assets of Jaganmohan Reddy, the Member of Parliament and son of late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

Shankar Rao and TDP leaders, in their petitions, had alleged that investors pumped in huge money into Jagan’s companies in return for the favours doled out to them by his father and then chief minister, Rajasekhara Reddy in the form of mining leases, real estate projects, ports and special economic zones.

Rajasekhara Reddy died in a helicopter crash in 2009. Jaganmohan Reddy raised a banner of revolt after the Congress leadership rejected his claim for the chief minister’s post. In 2010, he quit Congress party and later floated the YSR Congress party.
