Abuja: Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has sacked the country’s police chief following widespread violence in the west African nation.
The president has also approved the retirement of all deputy inspector general of police with immediate effect. Mohammed Dahiru Abubakar, who is currently assistant inspector general, will replace Hafiz Ringim as police chief, Xinhua reported.
Abubakar has been tasked with reorganizing the police force to make it more effective. Scores of people have died in violence in the past few weeks in the country.
