London: Excessive consumption of alcohol kills nearly 9,000 Britons every year, says a government report.
Data from the Office for National Statistics said alcohol-related deaths went up from 8,664 to 8,790 — a rise of 126 — between 2009 and 2010.
Among men, deaths rose by 175 from 5,690 in 2009 to 5,865 in 2010. Women’s drink-related deaths fell 49 from 2,974 to 2,925, reported the Daily Express.
