Case to be registered against Italian ship crew: India

By IANS,

New Delhi : A case will be registered against the crew of an Italian cargo vessel for allegedly killing two Indian fishermen in the waters off Kerala, Home Secretary R.K. Singh said Thursday.

“Case will be registered against the people responsible for the firing and the law will take its own course,” Singh told reporters.

The home secretary was asked about the likely action India will take against security guards onboard the Enrica Lexie who allegedly fired at two fishermen off the Kerala coast suspecting them to be pirates.

The Kerala government and the Indian Coast Guard say the merchant vessel was in Indian territorial waters where the Italian security guards were not allowed to carry or use weapons.

Sources said that the people responsible for the firing were likely to be arrested after a case is registered against them as they were bound to face the Indian law.
