Islamabad : The toll in a suicide blast at a mosque in northwest Pakistan rose to 36 Saturday after six more people succumbed to their injuries.
The explosion took place Friday afternoon in Parachinar city in Kurram Agency, bordering Afghanistan. Dozens of people were injured.
The attacker rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into a mosque when Shia Muslims were offering Friday prayers.
A faction of the militant Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), TTP Islahi, has claimed responsibility for the attack, Xinhua quoted Geo TV as saying.
The group said the Shia community was the target as it was backing the government in the ongoing military operation against them in Kurram Agency, bordering Afghanistan.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has condemned the attack.
