Health, rights tips given to rural women in Aligarh

Aligarh: A workshop entitled “Challenges and Issues: Empowering Rural Women of Aligarh” was held on 19th February at Rabita School in Maulana Azad Nagar of Aligarh where participating women were given tips on health and their rights enshrined in the Constitution of India.

The program was organized by All India Graduates’ Association (AIGA) in collaboration with National Commission for Women, New Delhi. The workshop was chaired by Mr. Amanullah Khan, chief patron, AIGA and head of UP Rabita Committee. Several hundred women attended the workshop.



Addressing the rural women, Dr. Shahnawaz, a surgeon at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College & Hospital, Aligarh, talked about many issues related to general health. Dr. Sarwar Hashmi, Consultant oral surgeon at Z A Dental College, AMU, gave an informative lecture on dental problems. He demonstrated the correct method of brushing the teeth. He informed that nowadays patients are operated upon for “cleft lip and cleft palate” at Z A Dental College absolutely free of cost in collaboration with a team of German doctors.

Dr. Kashif Razi, President, AIGA and a cancer specialist at JNMCH, warned the general public about the increasing incidence of cancers. He cleared many myths related to cancer. He also informed the gathering about the possible ways of treatment that are available at medical college.



Dr. Zafar Mahfooz Nomani, Asst. Professor, faculty of law, AMU also addressed the gathering. He informed them about the rights of women as per the Constitution of India. He said that a society which is not empowered becomes endangered.

Free toothpaste and tooth-brushes were given to every participant. Pamphlets on cancer awareness were also distributed.
