New Delhi : Stressing on communal harmony, a group of Delhi University students Monday staged a street play calling for justice to the victims of Gujarat riots 10 years ago.
The street play “Dharm” by a group of 16 students from Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College was staged during a commemorating programme organised by a Delhi-based NGO Sahmat that claims to be working for communal harmony in India.
The play highlighted how society was being exploited and divided on the lines of faith by vested interests.
Badri Raina, a Sahmat member, said Gujarat Chief Minister Narender Modi’s alleged involvement in the 2002 riots was known to “everyone”.
But, he said, victims of the “carnage” were still awaiting justice.
“The cases of Gujarat riots are tranferred from one place to another,” he said, adding the police system had conspired and “Gujarat had turned into an experiment ground for communal forces”.
“Modi has never visited any victim of the 2002 riots,” Raina said, taking a dig at Modi’s Sadbhavna programme.
At least 2,000 people, according to unofficial estimates, were killed besides many others were reported missing and many more grievously injured in the carnage let loose by communal forces following the burning of Godhra train carrying Hindu activists.
