Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan Thursday said that a two-day diaspora meet would be held at Kochi Jan 2-3 next year.
“The main purpose of this two-day meet is to discuss the various problems facing the thousands of non-resident Keralites (NRK) settled outside the country,” Achuthanandan told reporters here.
“The highlights of the two day meet would be the distribution of identity cards of NRKs, which has been a long standing demand.”
The delegate meeting, named as Keraliya Pravasi Sangomam 2008, is a prelude to a big event of NRK’s to be held in June or July.
“The meet in January is a delegate meet where in representatives from various Kerala based organizations functioning outside the country can take part,” said Achuthanandan.
Those interested to register for the meeting can log on to www.norka.gov.in or www.norkaroots.net before Dec 15.
Some two million Keralite’s are working outside the country. According to a latest State Level Bankers Committee report they have contributed a record Rs.319.95 billion, which is 34.56 percent of total deposits in all the Kerala banks.
