Chandigarh : The Punjab government Wednesday evening appointed Rakesh Singh, a 1978 batch IAS officer as new chief secretary of the state. Sumedh Singh Saini has been appointed the new state police chief.
Rakesh Singh is presently additional secretary in the Union Finance Ministry. He has been on deputation with the union government in recent years.
Outgoing chief secretary Subodh Chander Agrawal has been appointed chief commissioner of the Right to Service Commission to effectively monitor the implementation of the Right to Service Act that was implemented in the state last year.
Saini, a 1982-batch Indian Police Service officer, replaces Anil Kaushik.
