New Delhi : The Congress may have finally woken up to the need to improve its floor management in parliament and has decided to meet with allies thrice a week when the houses are in session.
This after the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) successfully defeated in the two houses the opposition-backed amendments to President Pratibha Patil’s address.
The decision to meet thrice a week was taken at the first UPA meeting that took place Tuesday. However, Trinamool Congress MPs could not attend the meeting as they were busy attending the swearing in ceremony of party leader Mukul Roy as the new railway minister.
The other UPA allies including the Nationalist Congress Party, the DMK and the National Conference attended the meeting, according to sources.
They said the UPA leaders would meet every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings every week to work out the floor coordination strategy for the day.
In case of an emergency, the meeting could be held on Monday or Friday as well.
The sources said Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee during her meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Monday demanded a panel to coordinate issues with the Congress.
The Congress is so far undecided on a formal UPA coordination panel but has decided take the allies on board during the parliament session.
