Jaipur : Eight people were killed and at least 18 others were seriously wounded in two separate accidents in Rajasthan’s Jaipur and Bikaner districts Thursday, police said.

According to the police, five people were killed while 15 others were injured when the two vehicles they were travelling in collided head-on near Loonkaransar village on National Highway 15 in Bikaner, some 330 km from Jaipur.

“The accident occurred around 3 p.m. About 30 people were travelling in two vehicles. One of them was driving wrong side on the highway. It seems it lost balance and rammed into the other approaching from opposite direction,” a police officer told IANS.

Four of the victims died on the spot while one succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Bikaner.

“At least 15 others are undergoing treatment. Condition of two of them is stated to be critical. Most of the victims were from Loonkaransar area only,” said the officer.

In the other accident, a truck rammed into another truck that was standing off the road in Jaipur’s Daulatpura area on Express Highway around 6 a.m. Thursday.

“Three people were killed on the spot, while three others were rushed to a hospital,” a police officer said.

He added that the stationary truck had developed some snag which the driver was trying to fix.

“The other truck ran over the driver who was standing on the road. It then hit the other truck,” said the officer.
