Srinagar : A major tragedy was averted with the timely detection of an explosive-laden car here Thursday evening, police said.
The abandoned Maruti 800 car was detected in Chanapora area, 5 km from city centre Lal Chowk, a senior police officer told IANS.
The bomb disposal squad has detected 75 kg of explosives packed in two cooking cylinders, a pressure cooker and two large milk cans placed inside the car.
“The bomb disposal squad is busy defusing the explosives. The timely detection has definitely averted what could have been a major tragedy,” the officer said.
