New Delhi : The ever-rising blistering heat in the capital pushed the power demand to an unprecedented high of 5,155 Megawatts (MW) Wednesday, breaking all previous records in Delhi’s power consumption.
“Delhi’s power demand has touched 5,155 MW today (Wednesday) which is the highest ever demand,” said a power department official.
The power consumption exceeded the highest-ever demand of 5,032 Megawatts recorded on May 25, 2012.
In August 2011, the capital had registered the highest ever demand of 5,028 MW.
In 2012, the projected consumption of power has been pegged at 5,500 MW.
Over the past 12 years, the demand for electricity in the capital has shown an upward trend.
The peak demand for power reached 2,831 MW in 2001 and has continued to increase ever since.
While power distribution company BSES Yamuna Power Limited reported the season’s highest power demand of 2,037 MW in its area, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited reported its highest ever power demand, which touched 1,363 MW.
