Punjab Congress leader held for immoral activities

Ferozepur (Punjab) : A senior Congress leader who had contested January’s assembly election was Sunday arrested by police in this border town of Punjab on charges of immoral activities.

Malkiat Singh, who had unsuccessfully contested on a Congress ticket against ruling Akali Dal president and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal from the Jalalabad assembly seat, was arrested along with several others, including a Punjab Police head constable, from various hotels of the town following police raids.

Ferozepur district police chief H.S. Mann told media that Malkiat Singh was among the people arrested for immoral activities. Mann said that six couples were arrested following the raids on three hotels Sunday.

He said that the raids were carried out following complaints from people that immoral activities were being carried out in these hotels.

The arrested people included five women.
