Jharkhand by-poll: AJSU leads; BJP, Congress trail

Ranchi : The All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) candidate was leading in the Hatia by-poll while the two national parties, the BJP and Congress, were trailing in the counting Friday.

AJSU candidate Navin Jaiswal was leading by over 12,000 votes after seven rounds of counting. The candidate of the second opposition party, the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVM-P), was in the second position.

After seven rounds of counting AJSU, JVM-P, Congress and BJP managed to get 25,945, 13,869, 10,156 and 9,767 votes respectively.

AJSU is alliance partner of the ruling BJP in Jharkhand.

The Hatia by-poll took place June 12 with around 38 percent polling.

The BJP, Congress, AJSU and JVM-P have fielded Ramjilal Sarda, Sunil Sahay, Navin Jaiswal and Ajay Nath Sahdeo respectively.

The Hatia seat fell vacant after Congress legislator Gopal Nath Sahdeo died due to disease in 2010.
