Jammu : The Pakistan Army Friday told the Indian military that it was ready for a flag meeting on the Jammu and Kashmir border after firing between the two sides left two Indian soldiers dead.
The Pakistani forces sent a message agreeing to take part in the meeting Saturday to discuss the week-long firing on the Line of Control (LoC) that subsided only three days ago.
“We have received a message from Pakistan requesting a flag meeting at Chakan-da-Bagh (near Poonch, 245 km from Jammu),” an army spokesman told IANS.
“The meeting will possibly be at the brigadier level,” he said. Usually such meetings are led by colonels.
Pakistani troops started firing at Indian positions in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district June 13.
What began with small arms fire later led to heavy and medium fire. Even mortars were used. The Indians retaliated.
The Indian Army sought a flag meeting. But Pakistan cancelled a meeting scheduled in the sector June 16 without giving any reason.
There have been more than 250 ceasefire violations by Pakistan since 2006. There have been 15 violations this year alone.
A majority of these violations have been in Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu region besides Kupwara and Baramulla in the Kashmir Valley.
