Power cuts likely to continue in Odisha

By IANS,

Bhubaneswar: Authorities in Odisha Saturday said power cuts in the state are likely to continue for some more days as hydro power stations were generating less power.

The state, which has been witnessing at least one hour of power cuts daily since the past several weeks, draws about 650 MW of hydro power when all its reservoirs are full, a senior official of the state-run power trader Gridco Ltd told IANS.

However, the generation has reduced to only 300 MW in recent weeks.

The power generation has not picked up because the water available currently in the reservoirs is only about four percent of the total requirement, he added.

The state requires about 2,700 MW of power on an average during a normal season and 3,300 MW during peak summer season.

However, it was not able to meet its normal requirement even though it was drawing 300 MW of hydro power and about 2,100-2,200 MW of thermal power from different producers.
