Ranchi (IANS) : Following the Congress ultimatum to perform or perish, Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda has been spurred into action, reviewing the progress of different departments and meeting police officials. But no visible improvement is in sight yet.
The Congress, a key partner in the ruling United Progressive Alliance, served a 60-day ultimatum to Koda on Nov 15 to improve the law and order situation, the condition of roads and the dismal power scenario.
Following the notice, Koda said: “Mera jamir jag gaya hai (my conscience has been woken).” He also said, “I feel I should make more efforts. People of the state have lots of expectations from me and I will try to expedite the works to meet their hopes.”
Koda has now asked officials to perform or face the music. He met state police officials along with the 24 district police chiefs to find ways to improve the law and order.
However, despite Koda’s efforts, progress is hardly visible.
There is no improvement on the law and order front and the electricity supply continues to be dismal with Ranchi facing load shedding of at least 10 hours a day.
No work has started on improving the condition of the pot-holed roads, even in the state capital. No work has been taken on announcing the Rehabilitation and Resettlement Policy or strengthening the Public Distribution System.
On Nov 26, Koda held his first ever janata darbar (meeting the public) in Ranchi. Large numbers of people came to meet him with their grievances. Koda received around 600 applications and redressed the grievances of 80 people that day.
Reacting to the new flurry of work undertaken by the chief minister, Congress spokesperson Alok Dubey said: “We will review the Koda government’s performance after 60 days. We want that Koda should deliver.
“The Koda government was formed to end the misrule of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government and give good governance. But Koda continued the heritage of the NDA regime and failed to change the scenario in the last one year,” he said.
