New Delhi : The Whistle Blowers Protection Bill was introduced in the Rajya Sabha Tuesday.
It was introduced by Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension V. Narayanasamy.
Introducing the bill, the minister said it would “provide adequate safeguards against victimisation of the complainant”.
According to sources, an amendment is likely to be made so that disclosures which hurt national interest do not come in its purview.
Initiating the debate, deputy leader of opposition Ravishankar Prasad extended support to the bill, adding that some of the clauses do not provide adequate safeguards to the whistle blowers. He also called for bringing to book third party beneficiaries and addressing the problems of rising incidents of corruption in the armed forces.
The government had earlier tried to introduce the bill in the budget session. It was deferred after the opposition sought time to go through the bill. Concerns have also been raised on including armed forces under the bill.
The debate could not be completed as the upper house was adjourned following the demise of union minister and former chief minister of Maharashtra Vilasrao Deshmukh.
