Kolkata: Exuberant after a performance across different cities in India, the world’s leading rock band “Poets of the Fall” Tuesday said they found the country “rocking” and loved the energy of the crowd.
“We love the energy here. There’s so much to draw inspiration from. We love to keep coming back,” said the Finnish independent band’s lead vocalist, Marko Saaresto.
“Poets of the Fall” are on their second tour to India. They have already belted out their superhit numbers in Delhi, Bangalore and Pune, where tickets were all sold out.
Marko expressed deep liking for Indian music, as the band breezed into the city on the last lap of their “Temple of Thought India Tour 2012”.
“I listen to Indian music on the radio and I bought a CD of sitar compilations on my last India tour. I like to listen to it while I’m driving,” he said.
Known for blending pop, rock, metal and a lot of industrial sounds, the band has no immediate plans of collaborating with Indian artists, but won’t rule out such work in future.
“We will never say never. Anything is possible,” said Maarko.
The band also includes Olli Tukiainen (lead guitar), Markus “Captain” Kaarlonen (keyboards, production), Jani Snellman (bass guitar), Jaska Mäkinen (rhythm guitar, backing vocals) and Jari Salminen (drums, percussion).
Formed in 2003, the band shot to fame with the single “Late Goodbye”, written for the acclaimed computer game Max Payne 2 launched that year.
“We celebrate our tenth anniversary next year. We are not sure, but might have something special next year,” Maarko hinted.
From their first chart-topping studio album “Signs of Life” in 2004 to their latest offering “Temple of Thought” released in March this year, the six-member outfit has tasted much success worldwide.
Where do they draw ideas for their evocative videos and lyrics from? Maarko said that the band looks for inspiration in anything and everything.
“Our videos are based on our music and we all throw in ideas,” he said.
