Kolkata : Attacking the central government’s decisions allowing overseas investments in multi-brand retail and raising diesel price by Rs.5 a litre, the CPI-M Friday said it, along with other secular parties, will launch a nationwide stir against the measures.
“The UPA has now taken the attack to the already burdened common man, by raising the prices of diesel and cooking gas. Moreover, the FDI in retail will prove disastrous for lakhs of small traders,” Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) general secretary Prakash Karat said here.
“We are already discussing with other secular parties and will be launching a nationwide stir protesting against the decisions and seeking a rollback. It will be a massive protest movement,” he said.
Karat also accused the Trinamool Congress of making only token protests against the decisions.
“There is some sort of match-fixing between the Congress and the Trinamool Congress. When in Delhi it allows Congress to have its way and in Kolkata they protests only to play to the gallery,” he said.
“Trinamool is part of the cabinet committee which earlier met and subsequently allowed the price hike. Why didn’t it raise its voice then,” he added.
Karat also attacked the UPA government over the alleged coal blocks allocation scam and said his party was in favour of discussions in parliament. He also criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party for its stand of not allowing parliament to function over the issue.
