Government extends pulses, oilseeds control order

By IANS,

New Delhi : In order to moderate the prices of pulses, edible oils and edible oilseeds and ensure their availability to consumers at fair prices, the government Monday extended a control order on the commodities from October 2012 to September 2013.

The proposal was approved by the cabinet at a meeting presided over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here.

The control order will enable the state governments to continue to take effective de-hoarding operations under Essential Commodities Act, 1955, by fixing stock limits/licensing requirements for these commodities, especially in view of rising prices and an unsatisfactory monsoon this year.

The move has been taken to tackle the problem of rising prices, and also to improve the availability of these commodities to the consumers, especially the vulnerable sections, said officials.
