Surajkund (Haryana) : The BJP Wednesday said India was “on the verge of change” and the party was “always ready” for elections though it was not trying to destabilise the government.
“The BJP is always ready for elections, if polls are there in a month, we are ready,” party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters here.
The party is holding its national executive meet in this tourist complex on the outskirts of the national capital.
Prasad’s comment came after party president Nitin Gadkari, in his inaugural address, said that it was difficult for the Congress-led central government to complete its tenure.
Quoting from Gadkari’s speech, he said: “The president said in his speech that the country is on the verge of change. The Congress government is falling due to its own actions, its allies are leaving it, or trying to leave. For getting new allies, they have an organisation, CBI.”
Asked if BJP was looking forward to the government falling, Prasad clarified that the comment was an observation of the current political situation and the party was not trying to destabilise the government.
“The president only discussed the present situation in the country and, at present, the situation of the government is uncertain. Anyone observing Indian politics will say that. If the government falls itself, we will not go to save it,” Prasad said.
